There are many who just have to sit throughout the day without even having any time to move their body and the muscles. Continuous sitting and lack of movement proves hard on our body.  Sometimes wrong postures also create problems like<strong> thoracic back pain</strong>, muscle amnesia, alteration in the curvature of the spine etc.  Sitting in a wrong posture for 15-20 minutes at a stretch will lead to strain the tissues and result in functional abnormalities. Sitting in a bad posture will cause certain tissues to absorb the excess force that it may not be able to handle. This will lead to deterioration of the tissues.  If you sit continuously for a longer duration then this will result in muscle amnesia where the muscles become less active and go to sleep. When the glutes, which are the common buttocks muscles, develop muscle amnesia, the low back gets strained and results in back pain.</p>

<p>You are always required to keep your muscles active for a healthy spine. Here are few tips which can help you in sitting properly and thereby avoid <em>thoracic back pain</em>.</p>
<ul>
<li> You have to choose a chair that has a great and proper support. It should be comfortable to rest your back properly, support the formation of perfect spinal curvature thereby reducing the excessive usage of the tissues of the thoracic back and other parts of the back as well.</li>
<li>Your feet must be flat on the floor when you sit in the chair. The chair should not be a high one pressurizing your thighs and reducing the blood circulation to the lower legs. A low chair will also result in back pain.</li>
<li>The backrest of the chair should be small to fit your small back or must be curved to provide the required support. If the lumbar support place is not proper then it will result in straining the spine excessively.</li>
<li>If the backrest of the chair moves forth and back when you move, then you will have to adjust your backrest tension properly to gain adequate support according to your weight.</li>
<li>The knees should be at least 2-3 inches beyond the front edge of the chair. This will avoid unnecessary pressure on the back portion of the knees where there are many nerves and blood vessels.</li>
<li>Shoulders must be relaxed and they should not be hunched up.</li>
<li>The lower arms and elbows have to be lightly rested on the armrests in order to avoid the problems of circulation.</li>
<li>You can also change your position frequently during the working hours by lowering or raising the chair by adjusting the back angle to the requirement. You can even unlock the back rest occasionally and let it move the way you do.</li>
<li>You should take short breaks and walk around for 4-5 minutes to reduce the stiffness in your muscles. The short breaks will contribute to moving the joints, proper blood circulation, activating the muscles and thereby avoid the back strain.</li>

There are number of people who are required to sit throughout the day while commuting to the office in the car, sit before the computers and once they reach home they lounge and go to sleep. There is no movement of the body to tone the muscles and hence start to develop postural back ache.</span></span></p>

The joints, muscles and ligaments of the spine are packed full of stretch receptors and position which constantly maintain and monitor the posture. Many problems arise due to the sensitization of the spinal cord and these can be resolved by stretching and moving the affected parts.</span></span></p>

This type of pain occurs when a person sits for long hours together leaning forward or due to any problem in the disc. Doctors prefer exercises to medicines but sometimes only the exercises cannot cure the patient so he has to go for medication. Back pain is a common disorder with which thousands of people suffer. There are Gastrointestinal disorders which are associated with <em>thoracic back pain</em> as well as osteoporosis, herpes, zoster and tuberculosis.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-top: 3.75pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">When the pain is lingering for more than three months, doctors suggest certain tests for correct diagnosis such as the CBC, ESR and X-rays. Mostly they prescribe Celebrex or the counter medication such as <strong>ibuprofen</strong> or else naproxen. <strong>Epidural injections</strong> are a non-surgical option for thoracic back pain, although not commonly prescribed. Pain-relieving medication is delivered directly or indirectly near the source of the pain. Epidural injections can be repeated from time to time and once the pain is relieved, physical rehabilitation can be done as well. A saline solution can be added to reduce inflammation. Anesthetic medications are also sometimes used to relieve pain.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span id="more-28"></span>It is better to give rest to the lower part of the spine. If it is relieved to some extent, avoid weight lifting, twisting and exertion. Anti-inflammatory medications, NSAIDs are helpful in back pain but NSAIDs should not be given to the patients who suffer from stomach ulcer. Heat packs as well as hot bath helps to ease the pain.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Thoracic Back pain in children has different causes in comparison to the adults. It may be due to serious underlying disorder especially in the children under the age of 4 years. It may be due to fever, weight loss or weakness. They need early identification and treatment because it may worsen seriously. Doctor should examine the cause of developing the problem and a physical examination. Doctor should also know the medical history of the child.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Doctor’s advice for Computed Tomography Scans (CT scans) which isan X-ray technique that provides a 3-D image which cannot be visible to the doctors on 2-Dimensional X-rays. It is to understand the complex anatomy in the spine. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a valuable technique because it shows soft tissues (like muscles and organs) along with the bones. In this technique the doctors can see each and every part, tissue, muscle of the body before taking any decision and it is very helpful in detecting the cause of back pain if caused by any actual lesions.</span></span></p>
